SACRED RUN
Now I guess you must be wondering about the Sacred Run I referred to earlier.
What is it?
What was it like?
Where did you run to and from?
How long did it last?
Let’s just said we were led by Dennis J Banks from the American Indian Movement.
to cover more than 4000 miles, coast to coast, (13 states) in less than 3 month.
Joe Stillwater and I were filming and running (5 to 15 miles/day) through out the whole thing.
The film is now in post production and while I’m cutting and trimming I am absolutely clueless on the time it will take me to get it together. Filmmaking has always been a combo of magic and miracles and like JL Godard once told me:
“Un film c’est jamais fini…”
PEACE RUN TO DARFUR
PEACE RUN TO DARFUR
For all the people I contacted earlier this year about a Peace Run to Darfur, and that saw my conclusion on the situation (Darfur needs: PROTECTION = GUNS) I wanted to first thank you for your support on the project, and tell you that the project is not over for you know we’re part of the “never give up tribe”. But remember, last year when we stopped in Houma Nation (New Orleans) on the Sacred Run. Volunteers were not the first thing they needed. In the opposite volunteers put more weight on their shoulders ‘cause they needed to be fed and sheltered and they couldn’t be put to work, because they had no tools to work with. Instead the people said: Send us some Home Depot gift cards- so they could get the stuff they needed to rebuild their communities with the help of the volunteers.
Well, if we had a peace run to Darfur right now it would be a suicide mission, not even a kamikaze one.
So what?
Are we gonna go there when everything is over?
I feel your frustration believe me. I do believe in democracy, but I do not believe our governments are democratic. If they are not democratic it’s because of us, the people, who are no longer standing up to and for our beliefs. Our answer is: We got bills to pay!
Are the landlords turning us back into slavery?
Or is it the college bills for our kids?
Or is it the Air Jordans at 150 $ a pair?
Or is it our cell phones and laptop and plasma TV screen all those great tools of communication?
To communicate about what?…
Or is it that new dream house on the hill?
What is it?
What is it that we need to give up or change in our lives and in our societies to be free again?
DARFUR: GUNS TO WASH AWAY THE TEARS
People from Darfur need protection.
They need protection in the refugee camp to start with.
A human shield will not protect them.
The situation there is: Bows and Arrows Vs. AK 47
They need guns to protect them.
Unfortunately I am not a soldier.
Unfortunately our governments have been aware of the crisis for quite sometime now whether they choose to call it a genocide or not.
What have they done: Nothing.
UN: Nothing.
Where and WHEN are we gonna find the gun to save their lives?
People in Darfur are NOT dying, they are being MASSACRED while I'm writing.
All the people in this world who don't wanna start this new millennium with a genocide for they know the catastrophic repercussions of such atrocities:
What are we gonna do???
PS: If you are not aware of what is happening in Sudan right now just google DARFUR so you can see and feel for yourselves. In the US they’re many associations in various states to put pressure on the Senate. In France www.sauverledarfour.org are the one to contact.
